Natural park and activities in the area






The farmhouse LOS MALENOS is in the middle of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, which occupies a land area of ​​37,500 ha and 12,012 sea ha, it is one of the few protected areas in Europe and with the only stretch of coastline still virgin Mediterranean and with some of the best sea beds.

Its volcanic origin gives it a peculiar landscape, creating coves in which rocks and sand alternate with great singularity and beauty. After being declared a NATURAL PARK in 1987, it was declared a SPECIAL PROTECTION AREA FOR BIRDS IN 1989, MARINE RESERVE 1995, GEOPARQUE and another series of protection figures for its flora, fauna and cultural heritage.

Also declared a BIOSPHERE RESERVE by UNESCO in 1997

In addition to enjoying its wonderful coves and beaches, you will be able to find its multiple mills, cisterns, waterwheels, watchtowers and castles on your tours of the park, discover emblematic places that are the scene of so many movies over the years. You will be able to discover minerals, unique flowers and discover birds without much difficulty, or if you prefer, accompanied by some of the companies that work in the area.

Very close to the farmhouse there is an equestrian center that organizes walks along trails in the area.

For lovers of water sports, there are different companies in the area specializing in all kinds of boat routes, canoeing, diving classes, kayaking, snorkeling and paddle.

If you like hiking or cycling, near the farmhouse there are several routes, Cala del Plomo, Cala de en Medio, Rambla del Olivo Milenario...etc. These routes are more recommended in spring, autumn and even winter with very pleasant temperatures and no rain. One hour from the farmhouse we have other very interesting places to visit such as the city of Almería with its Alcazaba and its old quarter, the archaeological site of Los Millares, the karstic formations of Sorbas, the Tabernas desert, the Pulpi geode, and the towns of Níjar, Sorbas and Lucainena with their beautiful white houses and ceramic, esparto and jarapas shops.
